Completion of the photographic record of traditional African Ceremonies facing extinction Work to be carried out in areas which up to now have been closed to the outside world 2. Creation of an educational photographic archive covering 30 years of work, and preservation of existing recording material 3. Any contribution you wish to make would be greatly appreciated. Here are the projects we are currently raising funds for: POKOT, Kenya 1. School fees for 19 Secondary school children who cannot afford to continue their studies. Cost per student per academic year: $315 Total needed to fund all students: $6,000 2. Assistance with tuition fees for 4 University students, studying medicine, law, conflict resolution & community development. Cost per student per academic year: $1200
3. Pioneering Women's Project to set up small businesses to generate income in basket weaving, honey making, calabash decoration, and traditional beadwork. Total needed to sponsor 20 women to cover purchasing of raw materials, start up costs etc,: $10,000 DINKA, Sudan Raising money for University tuition for Mokoi Majok Toch, to attend Law school in Uganda, so that he can contribute to the peace resolution between North & South Sudan. Amount needed for 4 years study: $5000 SAMBURU, Kenya 1. Funding for the first female Samburu teacher to work in a newly constructed school for nomad children presently studying under a tree. Amount needed: $500 2. Funding for 1 young handicapped Samburu man, Japhason, to study video & photography in order to record the ceremonies and traditions of his own people. Amount needed to fund his annual tuition: $800 WODAABE, Niger 1. Funding to repair a 60 foot deep well, funded by us in 1992, and damaged this year by unprecedented rainfall in the Sahel. Amount needed: $1,500 2. Wodaabe Artisinat Workshop The workshop, set up to raise funds to sustain communities during times of drought, produces jewelry in traditional style. The pendants are created to increase charm and personality during the courtship season and to protect against evil spirits. All proceeds go directly to the Wodaabe.
